Daxton Arrived on Tuesday December 27th at 4:36 weighing a whopping 7lbs 13 oz and 19 1/2 in long.
We dropped Kael off at my parents around 9:30 and headed to the hospital. It took a while to get things started but when we did I was dilated to a 3 and about 85% effaced. The anesthesiologist came right away to give me the epidural. Ugh.. That part always scares me. I felt so uncomfortable trying to squish my legs up to my chest with a big baby belly in the way! I started squeezing Ammon's hand the second I turned my back toward the anesthesiologist. It is so scary to me. Trying to stay so still when you know a huge needle is going into your back. My nerve was hit a few times and made my whole body spaz out. When I though I was out of the clear and could finally breathe, I heard the anesthesiologist say that my spinal fluid was leaking and that he had to do it again just above the first spot. He was saying that what happened is so rare. He has only dealt with it 5 times in his whole career. Ugh that made me feel good. I again had to hold my breath as he opened a space in my spinal column to insert the epidural. After he finished, I had this rushing pain in my head. I had never felt such a strange feeling. I literally thought I could be dying. All I could think was that I hope they could get my baby out safely. Looking back it seems crazy that I thought that. But I had no idea what was happening. They moved me onto my back and my head still killed. The anesthesiologist explained that when you leak spinal fluid, the brain, that is normally floating in fluid, rests on the nerves in the skull and that is where the pain is coming from. He also told me that the worst pain will probably come 8 hours later and that he would come check on me.
My head started to feel a little normal and I tried to get comfortable but it was so hard because I could not move my legs. I felt a little claustrophobic not being able to move. Ammon and the nurse moved my legs and I finally got to a comfortable position. Dr. Quinn then came in to break my water and boy am I glad I couldn't feel anything because he had a hard time breaking through the amniotic membrane. My first pregnancy my water broke before I made it to the hospital but this time the nurse said it probably would not have broken on its own. It was tough. The nurse told me that after breaking my water, my baby's heart rate may drop or he might grab the cord and if that does happen we would move me around to get the baby comfortable. Luckily we didn't have any scares with his heart rate. it stayed strong the whole time. Dr. Quinn guessed I would have a baby between 4 and 5. I thought that was being optimistic. it was around 1 and I was only a 4. However, my oxytocin (pitocin) was increased and the next thing I knew a nurse came in and said she heard it was time to start getting ready for a baby. I thought she got the wrong room. I don't think it was longer than an hour. Then my nurse came in (by the way, this was the same nurse that was with me while I was in labor with Kael) She came in and checked me and I was a 9 and all the way effaced. She went to call my doctor. I was so happy to have my doctor with me this time. He knows my concerns and about my whole pregnancy.
My mom, Jaime and Kylie stayed in the room while my dad stayed with Jaime's 3 kids and my Kael. Kael was asleep for the most part but did wake up and want to go walking around the hospital. When my family showed up, I cried knowing that my sweet Kael bug was nearby. This was the longest I had ever been away from him. almost 8 hours. Before this, the longest I had been away from Kael was probably like 2 1/2 hours to go see a movie. I was excited to see him again. anyway... Ky took video and pictures but it went by so fast. At one point I heard "cord" and I was told to stop pushing and to take a few breaths. He told me to do this another time and then all of a sudden I saw my baby boy. They put him on me and he looked so blue. (later Ammon said it seemed like his cord was wrapped around his neck a couple of times and that although Dr. Quinn looked calm, his hands were fast.. He didn't allow for me to feel nervous. I had no idea.) He took a minute to start crying but finally did. It felt unreal that I had yet another baby boy to love and adore. We did immediate skin to skin and then he was taken to get checked out. I was waiting to get stitches.. dreading it.. but Nope! I didn't need them! I know it was help from Dr. Quinn. So glad He could be at this delivery. If it wasn't needing stitches, it was having my spinal fluid leak. :( There is always something right. I am just glad that I have a wonderful, beautiful, healthy baby boy and I would do it over and over again for him.
Now the time I had been waiting for. I got to see my other cuddle bug and my two precious boys got to meet! I was excited for Kael to hop into my bed and gives me loves. He did that. Then he looked at his brother and smiled and tried to give him a hug.
